Pilates

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a method of exercise that was developed by Joesph Pilates (1883-1967). Movements include mat exercises as well as a vast repertoire that is executed on pilates equipment. These machines provide spring tension that can be manipulated to provide either assistance or resistance. Pilates movements always begin with organization of the breath and core musculature. From this groundwork exercises emerge to strengthen, lengthen, and create balance within the client’s body.

What is the philosophy of Pilates for Heath?

Meghan is a Polestar certified practitioner. This method of Pilates was developed by a physical therapist, and it places an emphasis on finding strength and mobility with a neutral spine as the foundation of these goals. This is advantageous for all bodies and a very important detail for a client who might be recovering from an injury.

At Pilates For Health the focus is on the individual. Each exercise is selected, modified or progressed based on the needs of each client - this is not a one size fits all mindset! The approach is to facilitate a positive movement experience and to work intelligently towards the rehabilitative or general fitness goals of the client. It is not necessary to possess an existing level of physical fitness to begin your pilates experience at this studio. With the guidance of your practitioner you can start the journey towards better health one breath and movement at a time.

Meghan is always happy to connect with any physical therapists or medical experts who might be providing care for a client, as this can often enhance the design and trajectory of the pilates program by providing a more complete picture of rehabilitative needs and goals.

The benefits of pilates are found in the details – I encourage you to explore the potential your body has for healthy movement!
